Maui Trip 2009

From May 20-26th, Jaime and I had the opportunity to go to Maui on vacation. We had a great time and got to do a lot of fun things. Here is a bunch of pictures to go along with some of the stories of our trip.

This is a panoramic picture of the beach right outside our hotel. (Don't forget to click on the pictures to get the full version.)

These are a couple pictures of the beautiful sunset on our first night there. The sunsets were so amazing! I took TONS of pictures of them, but I'll only post a couple.

There were some feral cats that lived in some bushes right outside our hotel. This one was the cutest and he greeted me everyday. It was SO hard not to feed them. Jaime eventually took to him too. He named him "Crossed-eyed-fussy" haha. He comes up with pretty weird pet names.

They had this sign up which I didn't like. Even feral cats need to eat!

Jaime and I went on a drive out to a lava flow on southern Maui. We stopped along some cool spots to take some pictures.

We also went snorkeling out where the lava flow goes into the ocean. The day after that, we went on a snorkel cruise out to the Molokini Crater and went to a few snorkel spots. We saw a 4-5 foot shark, eels, sea turtles, and TONS of tropical fish. What a cool experince!

I love Macadamia nuts!! I ate so many of these while we were there. And pineapples too!

Another cool sunset!! I especially loved this one because a few sail boats were floating by making some cool views. There was also a huge black cloud moving inland that made some dramatic coloring.

That wave hit me and I got soaked right as Jaime was taking this picture.

We ate at Bubba Gumps TWICE while we were there because it was so good! And it was right on the water in down town Lahaina. Here's a picture of my super good Mahi Mahi. Best meal I've had in a long time!

Panoramic sunset

My cute lizard friend! He came on our back patio almost every evening.

This is a huge frog we saw one night on our walk to the pool. He jumped out right in front of us and scared us!

Jaime standing on the rocks right near Ho'okipa Beach. We were watching surfers and sea turtles swimming around in the water by the rocks.

Some Hawaiian dude that caught a huge fish while we were checking out this black sand beach. I'm really confused by those goggles he's wearing....

Jaime and I pulled over along our drive Hana Highway and hiked down a small river.

We eventually found a really cool waterfall and pool PERFECT for cliff jumping. The water was suprisingly warm. (maybe because we're used to the frigid Green River water temps) We hung out here for quite a while and jumped off the waterfall and swam around in the pools. Here's some pictures of us jumping. At the bottom of this blog, there's a couple videos of me jumping the cliff.

---This sign was up but you better believe we went in anyways.

Here is Jaime really tired after a long day of body boarding and snorkeling.

Dead cockroach we found on our back patio one morning.

Kaanapali Beach with Black Rock in the background. We hung out here for the majority of the day. We snorkeled over by the rock and saw tons of fish and even some sea turtles. I even jumped off Black Rock few times but we didn't get any more pictures that day.

We took a whole day to do the Drive to Hana. It was a beautiful drive! Awesome views and scenery. The road was very interesting. Lots of one lane roads and bridges. Jaime especially loved the hair pin turns. Whenever he saw one of these signs, he would get so excited and turn off traction control and then gas it. It was very nerve racking, but fun too!

This is me scared out of my mind with Jaime behind the wheel.

Here's Jaime coming out of the water after body boarding. Looks like the waves got a little bit small for him.

On one of our last days, we went on a short hike to Honolua Bay. It was down in this little valley so there was tons of greenery. One of the prettiest walks I've been on.

Here's Jaime and I on the plane on our way home. It was a sad day! As you can probably tell, I'm very drugged up (because I have a deathly fear of flying)

Here's our pouty sad faces. We weren't ready to leave. We'll come back some day. Hopefully sooner than later.

Here are the videos of me jumping the waterfall cliff.

you will touch diseased cats, jump off cliffs, take pictures of dead bugs... but you're scared to fly? :)

Emma, you are brave to jump off those waterfalls, but then you and your sister always were daredevils when you weren't tripping! ;) Looks like a fun "animal" trip. haha Glad you had fun.
